American union SAG-AFTRA stated, which has reached a “breakthrough agreement” to use neural networks to use voice actors’ voices. The actors themselves said that no one asked them about this.

SAG-AFTRA has agreed with Replica Studios to produce AI voices so that it can approach actors for “fair and ethical contracts.” The union says actors will now be able to explore new opportunities in digital voices. Actors will be able to see how their voices will be used, and they will also have the ability to revoke rights for future projects.

Following the union’s announcement, many prominent voice actors publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the new agreement, emphasizing that they were not consulted. In response, union representatives said that the agreement was only with Replica Studios, and the organization itself never set out to completely ban AI in acting work – it was only necessary to outline the legal framework and set a fair bar for payment.
