It is the culmination of a year of training and work with textile players in the South West. Little sister of Casa93, founded by Nadine Gonzalez in Seine-Saint-Denis in 2017, Casa93Mirail opened its doors in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) in October 2022. Specialized in upcycling, it provides free and unconditional fashion training diploma to young people aged 18 to 25 who have dropped out of school and are in financial difficulty.

During the month of September, the collective collection of the first promotion of Casa93Mirail will parade twice in the Pink City, two events open to the general public. On September 1, at 7 p.m., a first presentation will take place in the gardens of the Château de la Reynerie, then on September 14, it is at the foot of the Galeries Lafayette, that the collection, called Mycélium, will be presented.

The collective collection designed by Casa93Mirail and called “Mycelium”, in reference to the underground part of the mushroom symbolizing the regeneration of nature, includes 25 outfits recycled in textile materials from the region, such as wool and pastel. Dr. Pierre Blum

This first class included 14 young people aged 18 to 25, mainly from priority neighborhoods in the city, for training in creative industry professions. This alternative fashion school is free and without diploma requirements. It was the designers Marithé and François Girbaud who sponsored this first promotion, working in particular with regional textile players, such as Laines Paysannes, a sweater manufacturer based in Ariège or Atelier Tuffery, a jeans factory made in France based in Lozere.

“The objective of Casa93 is to democratize and decompartmentalize fashion by giving all young creatives the same chances of being able to achieve professional success in this sector, underlines Nadine Gonzalez, the school’s founder. Whether they are in financial difficulty, breaking with the school system, looking for guidance or even disabled, our doors are wide open to them”.

The Toulouse branch, which specializes in vegetable and animal textile sectors through knitwear, upcycling and vegetable dyes, has developed partnerships with companies in the textile and clothing sector in Occitanie. These partnerships not only aim to enhance their unsold stocks but are also part of collaborations for capsule collections (clothing lines made up of a few limited-edition pieces, released for a fairly short period of time).

25 recycled outfits

Atelier Tuffery, Laines Paysannes and Terre de Pastel, which has brought the dye plant that gives the color blue back into fashion, have responded to the call by joining forces with the first class of Casa93Mirail to create collections from materials from the wool, hemp and pastel industries. Other major brands have also embarked on this project such as Mugler, the Toulouse Stadium and Galeries Lafayette, which will lend their Toulouse windows to the first collective collection of Casa93Mirail.

To complete their training, the young talents imagined a collective collection called “Mycelium” in reference to the underground part of the mushroom symbolizing the regeneration of nature. This one has 25 recycled outfits.
