About 3.5 thousand people took part in actions on the occasion of the 113th anniversary of the birth of nationalist Stepan Bandera in Ukraine. The national police did not record violations at the events that took place in 56 settlements in 20 regions of the country.

Stepan Bandera was the leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the initiator of the creation of its offshoot, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). The UPA was formed in 1942, fought for the independence of Ukraine and fought against Soviet troops.

The Israeli Embassy in Ukraine condemned the march in honor of Stepan Bandera. “The glorification of those who supported the Nazi ideology defiles the memory of the victims of the Holocaust in Ukraine. We demand a thorough investigation of the anti-Semitic manifestations that took place during the march, according to the law adopted in Ukraine in 2021, ”the embassy said in a statement in Twitter.

Stepan Bandera’s birthday in Ukraine in 2018 was declared an official holiday.
