Chennai: Leading mobile phone parts maker has complained that it has misused its income tax. Following this, an income tax audit was conducted yesterday at the company’s head office in the suburbs of Chennai and at Chinese mobile operators across the country.
It is alleged that there was malpractice in the export of spare parts for mobile phones manufactured by Chinese companies.
Meanwhile, the Income Tax Department raided the home of Brito, a relative of film actor Vijay and a filmmaker, and caused a stir in Chennai.
The search also turned up several other locations linked to a spare parts manufacturer involved in tax evasion, including Britto’s house. Brito produced the movie ‘Master’ starring Vijay.
The private spare parts manufacturing company has branch offices in various cities, including Delhi and Mumbai. Authorities also conducted simultaneous raids at those locations.
The company manufactures and exports spare parts to various leading mobile phone companies. Also, those spare parts are sold in the Indian market.
The complaint alleges that the company did not pay income tax. The Brito-run company has also been accused of importing handsets made in China and exporting spare parts for them.
Following this, an income tax audit was conducted at his home and offices in Chennai.
In addition, more than a hundred Income Tax officials, employees and police officers took part in the raid on Chinese mobile phone companies. Authorities said they had seized various important documents during the raid and that the raid was not yet complete, and that the operation would continue today.
