India successfully launches Chandrayaan-3 space station into lunar orbit

India has successfully launched the Chandrayaan-3 robotic space station into lunar orbit, the Indian Space Agency said. The next operation – lowering the orbit – is scheduled for August 6th.

Chandrayaan 3 consists of a lander, a propulsion module, and a lunar rover. The separation of the landing unit is scheduled for August 17th. In another six days, the lander should land on the lunar surface.

The mission “Chandrayan-3” is designed to correct possible errors made during the launch of the previous station.

Four years ago, on August 20, 2019, the Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft entered the orbit of the moon. In September of that year, the Vikram module was to make a controlled descent to the lunar surface. At an altitude of 2.1 kilometers, as reported by the Indian space agency, there was a failure and a deviation from the route, as a result, Vikram’s connection with the command post was lost.
