Guwahati: Former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad against Rohit Sharma’s decision to drop opener Ishan Kishan in the first match of the India Sri Lanka ODI series. Venkatesh Prasad took to Twitter and wrote that not giving opportunities to players and making unnecessary changes will affect the team. Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma had earlier announced that Shubman Gill would be the opening batsman with him in the Guwahati one-dayer. After this, the former Indian pacer came out strongly criticizing the captain’s decision.
Ishan Kishan scored a double century against Bangladesh in India’s last ODI series. The former Indian pacer wrote on Twitter that the player could have been considered at least one down. Venkatesh Prasad added in his tweets that if players are neglected without giving them opportunities, it will affect the team itself.

Think fair would have been to give chance to a man who scored a double hundred in India’s last ODI, and in a series where India lost two games and the series.
Have all the time in the world for Gill, but no way you drop a player for scoring a double ton. https://t.co/LbzKKH8ynw— Venkatesh Prasad (@venkateshprasad) January 9, 2023
Gill’s performance in the Twenty20 series against Lanka was stopped before he replaced Ishan with the right-handed batsman in the playing eleven. Rohit Sharma had stated in the pre-match press conference that he will never stop Ishan’s opportunity and that his priority is the performance of the current players.
There is a reason we have underperformed in Limited overs cricket. Constant chopping changing and a guy who does brilliantly and is an X factor is dropped and mediocrity retained.

But Venkatesh blamed this attitude of Rohit. Rishabh Pant was in good form by scoring a century in the ODI series during India’s tour of England. But as the player could not continue his form in T20 in the next matches, he was excluded from the ODI series. The former Indian pacer added in a tweet that this is not the right course of action. At the same time, Rohit has not included Suryakumar Yadav, who was in good form after scoring a century in the T20 series against Lanka, in his playing eleven.
In Eng, Pant scored a hundred in the final ODI and helped India win the series. However based on T20 form was dropped from ODI team. KL Rahul on the other hand barring a couple of innings has failed consistently but retains his place.Performance is not the foremost parameter. Sad

Apart from Gillen and Rohit, vice-captain KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Mohammad Siraj, Mohammad Shami, Umran Malik and Yuzvendra Chahal have been included in India’s playing eleven for the first ODI against Lanka. India have a three-match series against Lanka. Today’s match will be followed by the second match at Eden Gardens on the 12th. The final match of the series will be played on 15th at Kariyavattam Greenfield Stadium.
