New Delhi: Indian cricketer Mohammad Shami’s wife Hasin Jagan has filed a case in the Supreme Court seeking an order to enact a universal divorce law for all irrespective of gender and religion.
There has been a difference of opinion between Indian cricket team fast bowler Mohammad Shami and his wife Hasin Jagan. Jagan has been making many complaints against Shami, including sex. The divorce case is pending in court.
In this case, Hasin Jagan has filed a new petition in the Supreme Court.
In it, he says:
Under the Muslim Personal Law, I have suffered a very cruel divorce system.
Men can arbitrarily divorce a Muslim woman without asking her opinion and giving her a chance to express her side.
Although the practice of ‘talaq’ is prohibited, it takes many forms. These methods of divorce should be declared illegal.
Order to enact a universal divorce law for all, irrespective of gender and religion, to ensure equal rights under the Constitution.
This is stated in the petition.
The petition came up for hearing yesterday in a session presided over by Chief Justice TY Chandrachud. The bench mentioned that it will be investigated in conjunction with other related cases.
