Last week, a 25-year-old Indian man named Jai Krishan Kumar Mehta was arrested after he made a false threat call about a bomb being planted on a SpiceJet flight that took off from Bihar to Delhi, India. Mehta did this in revenge for the airport staff refusing to allow him to board the flight after he was late.

According to reports on NDTV, on January 24, an anonymous call was received at the company’s offices, claiming that there was a bomb on SpaceJet flight number SG 8496. A state of alert was immediately declared at the airport, even though the plane had already taken off. The flight crew was instructed to re-route and land back at the airport. The 210 passengers were safely disembarked and the aircraft was moved to an isolated area. The security forces conducted a thorough search, and confirmed that it was a false threat.

At the same time, the police checked the phone number from which the call was received, and located Mehta as the one who made it. He was arrested at Indira Gandhi Airport on January 28 (yesterday) and admitted that he did it in revenge for not being allowed to board the flight “just because he was late”.

The 25-year-old was handed over to the Gurugram State Police and charged with making anonymous threats. His actions caused delays in air traffic at the airport, and wasted many resources on the search, according to reports on NDTV.
