After Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power, the Digital India project was launched and is being implemented well. This scheme is being expanded in various fields in various places. In that sense, the Indian Railways is also encouraging the Digital India initiative in a big way.

In order to promote the Digital India project in Indian Railways, steps have been taken to carry out electronic transactions for the purchase of food products through the food processing companies in the railway stations. According to this, in total 8878 companies, facility for electronic money transactions has been established.

Hand-held machines have been introduced to print out the prices of food. At present there are 3081 portable sales registration machines in 596 trains. In addition, sales registration machines have been provided to 4316 food manufacturing companies.

Indian Railways has introduced e-catering facility for the convenience of passengers in trains. Passengers can book their required meals while pre-booking their tickets through e-ticket. Alternatively, passengers traveling by train can book their required meals by using the app, service center, website or by calling 1323.

Currently, e-catering service is available in 310 railway stations. An average of 41,844 meals are served per day. In this case, a new facility has been introduced in the Indian Railways to promote the Digital India project.
