Inflation in Catalonia drops three tenths to 3.1% in November even though food is still 8.4% more expensive

The annual variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Catalonia it stood at 3.1% in Novemberthree tenths less than in October, according to the data published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics.

Food is still 8.4% more expensive than a year ago, a tenth more than last month, while transport did so by 1.1%, that is, 1.2 points less for the drop in fuels and fuelswhich the INE puts at 6.7% in Catalonia.

In the State as a whole, the annual rate of the CPI in November stood at 3.2%three tenths less than the previous month and thus confirms the data advanced at the end of last month.

This way, the CPI confirms a moderation with respect to the annual variation of a year ago, which was still at 6.4%.

By group, food still registered a slight increase, up to 8.4%, one tenth more, while thenon-alcoholic drinks go up by 7%, 2.2 points less than the previous month and alcoholic drinks are two tenths more expensive, up to 8.1%. As for the shopping basket, the price of oil and fats continues to soar, with 45.8%, 2.4 points more than in November.

The price of sheep meat is also up, with 10.5%, two points more than in October; and pork, 11.7%, 1.8 points less. Legumes and vegetables climbed 14.1% compared to 2.3% in October, while sugar moderated its growth to 11.4%, 9.7 points less than the previous month.

The prices of dresses rose by 2.3%, two tenths more, while housing rents remain at 1.8%, compared to the variation in October. In the other hand, the 17.8% drop in electricity, gas and other fuels stands out.

Prices in transport rose by 1.1% compared to 2.3% in October while the annual variation in hotels and restaurants stood at 5.5%, three tenths less and leisure or culture it did so at 2.7%, two points less than in October.

In the State as a whole, the annual rate of the IPC stood at 3.2%, the same figure that the INE already advanced at the end of the month.

In this case, were influenced by transport, with 0.0%, almost a point and a half below that of last month influenced by the drop in the price of fuels and lubricants for personal vehicles; leisure and culture (2.5%), due to the higher decrease compared to the same month last year of the prices of tourist packages; and food and non-alcoholic beverages, with a rate of 9%, five tenths less than the previous month due to decrease in the price of bread and cereals, and milk, eggs and cheese against last year’s increase.

For autonomous communities, the annual CPI rate fell in 13 communitiesled by the Region of Murcia, Cantabria and the Canary Islands, all with half a point, while the only increase was in Aragon, specifically by two tenths, up to 2.7%.

On the other hand, core inflation, which excludes unprocessed food and energy products, fell seven tenths to 4.5%.
