Insurgents attack police stations in Nigeria

Abuja,

Nigeria, an African country, has long faced various security threats. While armed insurgent groups are fighting for independence in the South-East and North-East regions of the country, several terrorist movements in the North-West regions are engaged in acts of sabotage including murder, robbery and human trafficking.

In this context, the presidential election will be held in Nigeria on the 25th. There is a fear that the insurgents who are fighting for a separate country may engage in efforts to disrupt the election process. Due to this, security arrangements have been strengthened across the country.

In this situation, the day before yesterday, two police stations in Ambara province in the south-eastern part of Nigeria were successively attacked. 8 police officers were killed in brutal attacks involving grenades and gunfire. Many others were injured.

The police blamed the brutal attacks on a rebel movement operating under the name Biabra Tribal People’s Movement. They also said that 6 people have been arrested in connection with these attacks and the search is on to nab the fugitives.
