Ukraine has now routinely retaliated by moving away from self-defense and into enemy camps. This will only make the war worse. The Ukrainian military launched a massive missile attack on the Makivka oil depot, but the exact death toll has not been released. Russia says only one person was killed. But war experts say there is a risk of more deaths. Denis Pushlin, pro-Russian separatist leader of the Donetsk People’s Republic, has confirmed that the oil depot was set on fire following an attack by Ukrainian armed forces. The Tass news agency also confirmed that smoke and ash were seen spreading from the factory area. Fuel for Russian troops in Ukraine is supplied from this Russian-held territory.
Ukrainian media also released videos of black smoke rising in the area after the attack. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of an oil depot in Makivka, destroying four large tanks and 5,000 tonnes each.
The Donetsk News Agency reports that a dozen fire brigade engines were on the scene to put out the fire that engulfed the depot. According to reports, firefighters are battling the blaze, which is threatening to spread to other tanks.
Earlier, a Russian shelling at a Avdivka coke plant in Ukraine killed at least 10 people and injured 15 others. The Russian attack came as workers were waiting to board a shuttle bus after a shift at the factory. “The Russians knew where they were going,” he said, calling the attack a “cynical crime.” He said the Kremlin should be held accountable for its “disgraceful” actions, and within hours Ukraine’s retaliation.
