The Strategic Roadmap for the Development of Telecommunications and Information Technologies in the Republic of Azerbaijan defines as a target indicator to bring the average speed of Internet use by one user in a stable broadband network in the country to 50 Mbit/s in 2025 and to the level of developed countries after 2025.
As Day.Az reported on Wednesday with reference to Trend, the acting director stated this while making an opening speech at a meeting with a number of Internet providers held at the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Agency, Azerbaijan’s regulatory body for telecommunications and postal services. Nail Mardanov noted that the purpose of the meeting is to discuss upcoming work to improve the quality of services to increase Azerbaijan’s ranking in terms of Internet speed in the world and ensure a reduction in the number of consumer complaints.
Thus, to achieve this goal, recommendations have been made to take measures to improve the speed of Internet services provided by operators and providers.
It was mentioned that the optical network, as well as the technical means used by operators and providers, are fully compatible with the increase in speed.
It was suggested that the speed increase be tested in a pilot mode and the results discussed again with the ICT agency.
Representatives of Internet providers who spoke at the meeting noted that recent increases in the cost of transportation, equipment and infrastructure have led to increased costs.
In order to objectively study the possibility of the impact of increasing speed on price increases, operators and providers also discussed informing the agency about how tariffs for Internet services are formed.
The prospects for using public-private partnership tools to expand telecommunication networks and improve the quality of service were also discussed at the meeting.
At the end of the meeting, held in conditions of mutual understanding, it was decided to constantly hold meetings, seminars and trainings of this type in order to eliminate problems.
It should be noted that the Information and Communication Technologies Agency in Azerbaijan carries out regulation and control in the field of information and communication technologies and communications (telecommunications and mail), as well as radio spectrum management.
