The MP of Ioannina of the New Left, Meropi Tzoufi, calls for an immediate solution to the serious health care problems of the military.
With a parliamentary question to the Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias, he emphasizes that “the health care of the military is a chronic problem, while it has now taken on enormous proportions for the military, who live in the countryside, due to the lack of Military Hospitals”.
As he states, “the example of the military in Ioannina is typical, as they are forced to move and stay in Thessaloniki at their own expense, in order to be served by the 424 GSNE”. M. Tzoufi notes that, when there are serious health reasons that require scheduled operations, military personnel are not entitled to treatment and hospitalization in the public hospitals of the cities where they live.
The question also emphasizes that the military are suffering from the long waiting times. For example, the 424 GSNE is unable to cover them in time as it now also serves non-uniformed. As a consequence, a number of “routine” operations are delayed by up to two years. At the same time, the medical records of the military have no validity at outpatient doctors and private health units, with the result that the carrying out of expensive tests is borne exclusively by the sick military.
As mentioned, the issue has already been raised by the Military Union of the Regional Unity of Ioannina, which proposes specific measures, such as the possibility of choosing a staff and attending physician in public or private nursing institutions, with the corresponding participation from the health care fund.
In this context, the MP of the New Left asks the Minister of Health to take measures to facilitate military personnel who need treatment, especially for those who live in areas without a Military Hospital. At the same time, he calls on him to adopt the proposals of the Military Union of the Regional Unity of Ioannina in order to upgrade the health care services of the military
