Investigative Committee opened a case after the death of nine people from alcohol poisoning

In Tyumen, nine people died after consuming methyl alcohol, which was sold as vodka labeled “Springs of Siberia”. Investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the region have opened and are investigating a criminal case, according to the website of the Investigative Committee.

The investigation established that counterfeit alcohol was sold in two outlets in Tyumen since January 3. As a result of drinking alcohol-containing liquid, nine people died. Investigative Committee and police officers detained four suspects.

“Inspections of the scene were carried out, as well as searches at the place of residence of suspects and victims, investigators of the TFR interrogated witnesses, appointed the necessary examinations,” said the Investigative Committee.

A criminal case was initiated on the fact of the sale of goods and products that do not meet the requirements of the safety of life or health of consumers, which inadvertently resulted in the death of two or more persons (part 3 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). For committing a crime, punishment is imprisonment for up to ten years.

According to the regional Rospotrebnadzor, over 200 cases of poisoning with alcohol-containing products were registered over the past year, of which more than half were fatal. In 5% of cases of poisoning were registered among minors.
