IO Interactive delayed the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light
to March 2027, citing the need to polish its performance.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light has been pushed to March 2027, marking the latest in a series of delays for the James Bond action-adventure game. IO Interactive, the developer, announced the postponement on September 15, 2026, stating that the extra time would focus on optimizing the game’s performance on the console. The decision follows earlier delays that shifted the release from its original May 2026 window to the summer
and then to a 2027 launch.
The Delay and Its Rationale
IO Interactive’s announcement came via a social media post, where the studio emphasized its commitment to delivering a quality experience for Switch 2 players. To ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect, we have made the decision to delay the release to March 2027,
the statement read. This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game.
The studio cited positive feedback from Gamescom as a sign of progress, noting that the same demo would be playable at the Tokyo Game Show. However, the exact release date remains unspecified. The delay follows a pattern of repeated postponements: the Switch 2 version was initially scheduled for a 2026 launch alongside PS5, Xbox, and PC, but was delayed to the summer
in April 2026. Subsequent delays pushed the release to 2027, with no clear timeline for the exact date.

IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak had previously acknowledged the need for more time, stating in an earlier interview, We just want to make sure it’s good as it can be. I don’t want to hear it wasn’t a good version.
The studio’s focus on optimization reflects the technical challenges of porting a high-demand title to a console with less raw power than its competitors, a common hurdle for Switch 2 developers.
Fan Reactions and Industry Context
A user on Twitter wrote, It’s mind-boggling that you fumbled a 007 Game on a Nintendo console, a platform were 007 has sold the best.
Others questioned whether the delay was due to technical limitations or strategic timing, such as avoiding competition with GTA 6 or waiting for a larger user base.

Despite the delays, the game has seen strong commercial success on other platforms. Since its May 2026 release, 007 First Light has sold over 4 million copies across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The Switch 2 version, however, remains a priority for Nintendo fans, who had hoped for a day-one launch.
The delay also raises questions about the future of the 007 franchise on Nintendo. IO Interactive has not commented on these concerns, but the studio’s focus on 007 First Light suggests it remains committed to the Switch 2 despite the setbacks.
For now, the March 2027 release date remains the official target, though further delays are possible. IO Interactive plans to share more updates as they become available, with a focus on refining the game’s performance. The studio also announced a PC update adding support for path tracing and DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction, highlighting its ongoing efforts to enhance the experience across all platforms.
Players waiting for the Switch 2 version may have to contend with a longer wait, but the promise of a polished product could justify the delay. As one fan wrote, Be worth the wait 🥰 would rather the game be running fine than a rushed release ☺️.
The outcome will depend on how effectively IO Interactive balances technical improvements with the expectations of a franchise that has long been a staple of Nintendo’s library.
