Serghei Mizil Reveals Ioana Popescu’s Hidden Health Struggles Before Death
A former journalist’s recent passing has prompted reflections on her private battles with illness, as revealed by competitor Serghei mizil. Just days after Ioana Popescu‘s burial, Mizil shared details of a final conversation with the journalist, shedding light on a struggle she kept largely concealed from the public.
Just days before her death, Popescu contacted Mizil seeking a phone number for an unnamed individual. “He called me, he told me he was in Timișoara and he asked me for a phone number,” Mizil recounted to Spynews. “I told him that, regrettably, I didn’t have that phone number. I talked to her, it was all, he had nothing.”
Mizil, who is slated to compete alongside Mara Bănică on Asia Express 2025, indicated that Popescu’s health had been a known concern among those close to her, yet she actively sought to shield the world from the details. The 72-year-old star revealed he was aware of Popescu’s health problems but refrained from directly addressing them with her.
The news of popescu’s death came as a shock to Mizil and a mutual friend. “I was shocked, and my friend, who accompanied me, when I found out the news,” Mizil stated. “He was a good friend of her.” He added that while he knew of her diagnosis, he was unaware of the severity of her condition. “Well, I knew what diagnosis he has, but I didn’t know that the situation was so serious. Even though we certainly know about these problems, I never talked to her about the disease, I didn’t talk about it.” The speed with which events unfolded – learning of her death just four days after their last conversation – further amplified the sense of disbelief.
This case underscores the often-private nature of health struggles, even among public figures, and the profound impact of loss on those left behind.
