iPhone began to recognize users in masks

by time news

iPhones can now recognize masked faces. The corresponding function appeared in the beta version of iOS 15.4. This is reported by the American edition of The Verge.

You can activate the feature in your phone settings. When setting up this feature, the user is notified that the smartphone can now recognize the owner using “unique areas around the eyes.”

Previously, the Face ID function only worked if the user’s face was not covered by anything. The publication notes that it may take some time to recognize the masked face and unlock the phone.

So far, the option is only available on iPhone 12 and 13 phones. The developers plan to make it available on all models of phones with Face ID.

Last April, Apple added a similar feature to Apple Watch users. After unlocking the watch, the program removes the protection of the smartphone.
