Bangalore: The much-awaited IPL mega star auction will begin today. The auction will be held in Bangalore today and tomorrow. The auction will start at 11 pm.

A total of 590 players are being auctioned for the ten teams. There are 370 Indian players and 220 foreign players. Of these, 228 played for national teams and 355 did not. There are also players from seven associate countries. Thirteen players from the Kerala team, including Sreesanth, are up for auction.

A total of 161 players will be in front of the franchise on the first day. Leading Indian players including senior openers Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer and foreign players like Pat Cummins and Kagiso Rabada will top the franchise at a base price of Rs 2 crore. A total of 48 people are on the list of Rs 2 crore.

Senior Indian cricketers Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Ashwin, Ishant Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane from the same group will also be up for auction on the first day. Youngsters Ishant Kishan, Devdutt Padikkal, Washington Sunder, Deepak Chahar, last season’s best wicket – taker Herschelle Patel, spinner Yusvendra Chahal and fast bowler Shardul Thakur are all up for auction.

Foreign players Pacer Trent Bolt, Cummins, Rabada, Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith, former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan and South African Faf du Plessis will also be up for auction on the first day. They are expected to be followed by franchises.

20 players with a base price of Rs 1.5 crore and 34 players worth Rs 1 crore are up for auction. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, Deepak Hooda and Avesh Khan, Indian Under – 19 captains Yash Dul, Vicky Ostwal and Rajwardhan Hunger Gaker are also up for auction.

South Africa’s 42-year-old spinner Imran Tahir is the oldest player in the auction. Noor Ahmed, a 17-year-old from Afghanistan, is the youngest. Noor is currently playing in the Under-19 World Cup in the West Indies.

Punjab Kings can buy the most players. Punjab has 23 vacancies while Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians have 21 vacancies. The remaining teams have 22 vacancies each.

The Punjab Kings have to spend Rs 72 crore. This is the maximum amount a team can have. The lowest is Delhi Capitals at Rs 47.5 crore.

Most foreign players are from Australia. 47 will attend from Australia. All 34 players from the West Indies will compete in the auction. South Africa has 33 players, Sri Lanka 23, England 24, New Zealand 24 and Afghanistan 17.
