Iranian military authorities indicated this Friday that the country’s defense systems “fired at suspicious objects” that did not cause damage, amid speculation about a possible Israeli missile attack.
“I am [de explosões] it is related to the firing of Isfahan’s defense systems,” Iranian army commander in Isfahan province, Siavosh Mihan-Dust, told Iranian state television.
“We suffered no damage and there were no accidents,” he added.
State television reported early this Friday morning that the sound of “strong explosions” was heard in the central province of Isfahan, which is home to missile production centers and nuclear facilities.
Iran denied that there was a missile attack against the country and assured that its air defenses shot down several drones. “There are no reports of a missile attack for now,” said Iranian Space Agency spokesman Hossein Dalirian on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
UN agency says explosions did not damage Iran’s nuclear facilities
The source indicated that the country’s air defenses shot down “three micro ‘drones’”. State television highlighted that the ‘drones’ came from within the country, something that has happened in the past. The last known case was in April 2023, when a military complex was attacked with three ‘drones’ in Isfahan.
Neither the Israeli Government nor the Pentagon officially recognized the operation.
According to the American television channel ABC News, which cited a United States official, Israel launched an attack against Iran, at the same time that the official Iranian TV reported information about “strong explosions” in the province of Isfahan (center).
Air defense
Iran activated air defense in several provinces, following information about at least one explosion in the center of the country, Iranian state news agency IRNA reported.
Iranian authorities suspended all commercial flights to and from several airports, including Tehran, with travel resuming hours later.
Iran recorded “no significant damage or explosions”, says news agency
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed this Friday that there was no damage to Iran’s nuclear facilities following the attack carried out by Israel against the center of the country.
Iran launched a missile and drone attack against Israel last Saturday, in retaliation for the bomb attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, on April 1, in which seven members of the Revolutionary Guard died.
Israel promised retaliation for that attack.
