The Iranian Revolutionary Guards advanced new military reinforcements into Syrian territory, at the same time as tensions with Israel increased and Tehran’s threat to respond to the attack on its consulate in Damascus.

Local Syrian sources confirmed that four trucks covered in camouflage nets entered the territory of Iraq into the territory of Syria through the illegal border crossing under the full control of Iran – al-Siqaq, yesterday Saturday, and noted that these cars were not inspected.

The trucks were stopped in the border town of al-Hari, before setting off at dawn on Sunday for the city of Deir ez-Zor, covered by a motorized guard of the Revolutionary Guards, local news site North Press reported.

The Afghan Fatmiun militia brought in 50 Iraqi fighters from Iraq to the Deir ez-Zor province and deployed them on the front lines with the Kurdish SDF forces west of the Euphrates River.

A promise of Iranian revenge and American alertness

These reinforcements come following the tensions in Syria as a result of the Iranian consulate in Damascus being attacked by Israel last Monday, killing 7 commanders from the ranks of the Revolutionary Guards.

Iran threatens to respond in kind since it considers the United States responsible for the attack, while the latter is preparing for a possible Iranian attack.

The United States expects Iran to attack Israeli or American assets in the region, according to what an American official told Reuters.

On the other hand, another senior American downplayed the importance of the Iranian threats, because he believed that Tehran, despite its desire to respond to the damage to the consulate, is afraid of entering into a wider conflict with the United States and Israel.
