Iraq, over 80 dead in Baghdad hospital fire

The toll of the fire that broke out in the night inside the hospital in the Ibn Khatib hospital in the Diyala bridge area in the south-eastern part of the capital Baghdad, intended for the treatment of Covid-19 patients, has risen to 82 dead and 110 injured. This was reported by the Iraqi Interior Ministry. According to the Iraqi press, the fire broke out following the explosion of an oxygen cylinder in the intensive care unit where patients with Covid-19 are treated. Following the incident, the Iraqi Ministry of Health and Environment announced the dismissal of the director general of the Baghdad Health Department, the director of Ibn Al-Khatib Hospital, the technical and administrative assistant of the hospital and the director of the engineering and maintenance department of the health center. In a statement, the ministry reported that the decision was issued by Prime Minister Mustafa al Kadhimi. The ministry reported that civil protection teams are still at the crash site, investigating to find out the reasons that led to the fire.
