The commander of the Irini naval operation, Admiral Stefano Torchetto, said that 23 European countries contributed to their relentless commitment to the Common European Security and Defense Policy for a lasting peace in Libya.

Torchito indicated in the ceremony of handing over and receiving the leadership of the Irini Naval and Air Task Force that took place at the Italian Naval Base of Taranto on Saturday, that Irini is the only party committed to implementing the United Nations resolutions regarding the arms embargo imposed on Libya and integrating international efforts to achieve stability in the region.

Admiral Stefano confirmed that the total of what the operation found was about 150 armored vehicles on 3 occasions, or they were modified for military use during inspections and inquiries conducted by IRINI for about 9,000 commercial ships, and the inspection of 25 suspicious ships in the Mediterranean.
