The BCCI had spoken to Virat Kohli before announcing his resignation as captain in the T20 tournament. We were repeatedly asked not to resign as captain. But the goalie did not agree to that. The BCCI does not want the decision to have a captain for T20s and a captain for ODIs.

Due to this, the BCCI announced Virat Kohli as the Test captain and Rohit Sharma as the ODI and T20 captain. Prior to this announcement, the selectors and I spoke privately with Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli’s performance as the captain of the Indian team was excellent. We have high hopes for Rohit Sharma. And we hope that Virat Kohli will continue to show his talent in Test matches.
