Israel agreed in response to the US proposal to exchange prisoners and hostages with Hamas and is awaiting a response from the group.

As Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax, this was reported by CNN.

CNN clarifies that Israel agreed to the proposal put forward by CIA Director Bill Burns. It involves the release of about 700 Palestinian prisoners, including 100 serving life sentences for killing Israeli citizens, in exchange for the release of 40 Israeli hostages.

The delegations are waiting for a response from Hamas, the TV channel notes.

Meanwhile, a CNN diplomatic source said unresolved issues remained, including the arrival of aid and the “redeployment of Israeli troops” to Gaza.

In turn, the Almayadeen TV channel, citing its own sources, reported that Israel refuses even the gradual return of displaced persons and the creation of new camps to accommodate hundreds of thousands of displaced persons.

The channel’s source described Israel’s position in the negotiations as “inflexible.”

Earlier, an Israeli delegation led by Mossad intelligence director David Barnea was in Doha and held indirect negotiations with Hamas. The mediators were CIA chief William Burns, Egypt and Qatar. On the night of March 24, the Israeli delegation returned home.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel. Over 1.2 thousand people became victims of the attack, 240 people were taken hostage. In response, Israel launched a military operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Since the start of the military operation, according to the latest data from the Palestinian health services, the death toll in the Gaza Strip has reached 32 thousand 226 people, the wounded – 74 thousand 518.

Since November 24, 2023, a ceasefire was in force in Gaza, but the parties failed to achieve its extension, and hostilities resumed on December 1, 2023.
