Title: Israel Faces Lawsuit for “Genocide” in Gaza, Considers Strategy to Embarrass UN in Hague Tribunal

Amid ongoing fighting in Gaza, the State of Israel is set to face its first lawsuit from South Africa at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. The lawsuit claims “genocide” in the fighting in Gaza and is scheduled to open tomorrow.

In the meantime, reports have surfaced that Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar recommended in closed discussions for Israel to try and embarrass the United Nations, with the Hague Tribunal being one of its institutions, as reported on Wednesday in GLAZ.

According to the report, Bar wants Israel to present evidence of the involvement of UNRA personnel and its institutions in the October 7 massacre. He recommended to the Prime Minister and legal authorities to use this strategy and present how the UN institutions, led by UNRWA, were involved in the massacre.

Among other things, Israel will seek to prove that some of the Hamas terrorists who participated in the massacre on October 7 were themselves UNRWA employees. They also plan to demonstrate how Hamas uses UNRWA schools for terrorist purposes, including using them to store weapons and teach inciting content against Israel.

The proposal is currently being considered and is on the table, although it is not yet clear whether Israel will choose to use this strategy. The Shin Bet has stated that they do not refer to what was said in closed discussions.

As the hearing at the International Court of Justice approaches, tensions remain high in Israel as they prepare to confront the lawsuit while also considering their strategy for doing so. The outcome of this legal battle could have significant implications for Israel’s international standing and relations with the United Nations.
