Tehran: Iran has claimed to have hanged an Israeli spy on charges of conspiring to spread terrorism in the country. According to state media reports, the Mossad agent was allegedly planning to bomb Iran’s Defense Ministry. This news comes after the hanging of four people linked to the same bomb conspiracy last month. The four men were reportedly trained by the Israeli intelligence agency in an African country before entering Iran from the Kurdistan region of Iraq. The four men were identified as Iranian nationals namely Mohammad Faramarji, Mohsin Mazloum, Wafa Azarbar and Pejman Fatehi. Iran often claims to have foiled Mossad operations in the country, but the veracity of such claims is unclear.
Accused of attack on missile factory
Iran’s state media IRNA said they had planned to target a factory dealing with missiles and defense equipment. It was also claimed that the operation planned by Israel’s Mossad was scheduled to take place in 2022. Reports state that the plot was allegedly hatched by Iranian intelligence. The appeal of these people was rejected by the Iranian Supreme Court, after which they were given death sentence on Monday.
Iranian judiciary also confirmed the hanging
“Four members of a group linked to the Zionist spy organization were sentenced to death this morning,” Iranian judiciary website Mizan Online reported. According to Amnesty, Iran executes more people per year than any other country except China. In December, it claimed to have killed four men accused of having ties to the Mossad. The killings are being seen as revenge for the killing of senior Iranian general Seyyed Razi Mousavi in Syria on Christmas Day.
Tension increased after Gaza war
Tension is at its peak between Israel and Iran after the Gaza war. On October 7 last year, Hamas terrorists attacked Israel. During this time they killed more than 1200 people and took more than 250 Israeli citizens hostage. In response, Israel has attacked Gaza. So far 30,000 Palestinian civilians have been killed in these attacks. There are also talks for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, but its success is doubtful. Hamas is not ready to give the names of those Israeli hostages who are still alive.
