Starlink satellite communications terminals developed by SpaceX are sold on the black market around the world. This was reported by Bloomberg with reference to the results of its own research, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.
The agency emphasizes that smuggling of these systems is a global problem, calling into question SpaceX’s ability to control the sale of terminals. Starlink was found to be used in countries such as Venezuela, Yemen, Sudan and South Africa, where the company said the terminals were not sold. However, smugglers activate the devices in other countries, after which they find buyers in any other country.
Starlink is a satellite Internet project developed by SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk. The goal of the project, as stated by SpaceX, is to provide high-speed Internet in the most remote corners of the planet using a network of thousands of small satellites in low Earth orbit. With the start of satellite launches in 2019, Starlink has already begun providing Internet services in more than 70 countries around the world.
