Time.news – The collapse of the monument in the Camilluccia area dedicated to Walter Rossi, Lotta Continua militant killed in 1977, according to the Capitol it happened presumably for a series of contributing causes.

Among the elements listed, explains the Municipality: the physical-mechanical characteristics of the stone material with which the work was built, the conformation characterized by a considerable overhang with respect to the support point, the seismic stresses and vibrations connected to the intense vehicular traffic affecting the area.

The detached part has been moved and placed inside the garden, in order to free the pavement, and the technicians of the Capitoline Superintendence for Cultural Heritage, in concert with the author of the sculpture, are at work to identify the modalities of its recomposition and its restoration.

The monument to Walter Rossi was placed by the author Giuseppe Rogolino in the green area of ​​Piazza Igea (now Piazza Walter Rossi) in 1978, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the killing of the young man. The work, according to the artist who made it in a peperino monolith, represents youth ideals symbolized by some bronze hands that oppose each other and fight against violence and brutality, represented by the monkey head carved in stone.

On the thirtieth anniversary of his death, in 2007, in agreement with the Rossi family, the Capitoline administration placed the work on a concrete base with two steps with dedication inscription.

In the same year a memorial stone on the site of the murder, in viale delle Medaglie d’Oro. Two years later, following a theft, the sculpture was restored by the artist who remade three of the eight hands in bronze.

The Capitoline Superintendence every year, on the occasion of the commemoration of September 30, provides for routine maintenance (biocide treatment and washing) of materials.
