Marital strife is common in sports arenas. As a result of which even murder-injury happens. Italian former footballer Giovanni Padovani has been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his ex-girlfriend. The 28-year-old former centerback was a player for Italian fourth division team Sancataldes.

Judge Domenico Pasquarelli of the Bologna court ruled in this case. The court said Padovani’s charges of incitement, vandalism and planned attack were taken into account in the verdict. It is known that there was a relationship between the two for about a year.

The Italian media Gazzetta dello Sport reported that the murder took place in the northern Italian city of Bologna in August 2022. However, Padovani claimed that he was not normal at the time of the incident. This footballer also apologized to the court for this.

Padovani said, ‘If you think it is normal for me to kill a beautiful and intelligent woman like Alessandra (his lover), then I deserve a life sentence. Being upset is also a reason behind this. What I have done is horrible and unforgivable.’

According to Mail Online, Padovani killed 56-year-old Alessandra Matteuzzi Padovani after accusing her of teasing him. Alessandra was talking on the phone with her sister Stefania on the day of the incident. Padovani killed Alessandra by first beating her with a hammer and a baseball bat. That’s what Alessandro’s sister said.
