In Russia, stocks of new foreign cars of the mass segment are almost exhausted. This conclusion was made by Izvestia, having studied the proposal of the official representative offices of Volkswagen, Kia, Skoda, Citroen, Opel, Renault and Hyundai.
According to the newspaper, in Russia there are only 313 cars of models of the middle price segment of these manufacturers. In particular, 127 Skoda Rapid, 93 Volkswagen Polo, 48 Citroen C4 and 45 Kia Rio remained in the country. It is noted that Renault Logan, Opel Astra and Vectra, Hyundai I and II are not available in the Russian Federation at all.
The Association “Russian Automobile Dealers” (ROAD) said that only a few dozen cars are available in car dealerships. They confirmed that there were no Renault cars left in the Russian Federation. In addition, on the websites of manufacturers, along with cars in stock, cars are also indicated on order, which still need to be imported into the country, added to the ROAD.
According to the Fresh Auto marketplace, there are about 200-500 “most popular models” of Kia, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Renault and Skoda left in Russia. Fresh Auto CEO Denis Migal noted that it is now difficult to predict how long the remaining cars will last. According to him, in 2021, “at least 200 cars of the mass segment were sold per day.”
At the same time, scarce models have increased in price by 1.5-2 times, Izvestia writes. Fresh Auto reported that the cost of Kia Rio in the basic configuration has increased from 910,000 rubles. in 2021 to RUB 1.5 million in 2023. Top-end Hyundai Solaris and Volkswagen and Skoda liftbacks, which previously could be bought for about 1 million rubles, now cost about 2.5 million and 1.8 million rubles. respectively.
Against the backdrop of a special operation in Ukraine and the adoption of sanctions against Russia in the spring of 2022, a number of foreign automakers suspended the supply of cars and spare parts to the country. In particular, this decision was made by Volkswagen, Skoda, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Audi and others.
Since the end of March last year, the mechanism of parallel imports has been applied in the Russian Federation. In May, the Ministry of Industry and Trade allowed 50 brands of cars, including Tesla, Toyota and Land Rover, to be imported into the country without the permission of the copyright holder. In March 2023, the list was supplemented by Citroen, Mazda, Opel, Kia, Renault and others.
