Notre Dame’s Izzy Engle Named Finalist for 2025 Honda Sport Award for Soccer
The accolades continue to pour in for Notre Dame sophomore forward Izzy Engle, who was announced Monday as one of four finalists for the prestigious 2025 Honda Sport Award for Soccer. Engle’s exceptional performance this season has solidified her position as a leading contender for the coveted award, recognizing the nation’s top female collegiate soccer player.
The finalists include Stanford University senior forward Jasmine Aikey, Florida State junior forward Jordynn Dudley, and Texas Christian University senior forward Seven Castain, alongside Engle. This group represents the pinnacle of collegiate soccer talent, according to a statement released by the Honda Sport Award committee.
Engle’s impressive season was highlighted by numerous individual honors, including being named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year, First Team all-ACC, and USC All-atlantic Region First team. She distinguished herself as the first Notre Dame striker to achieve the ACC Offensive Player of the Year title and only the fifth player in conference history to earn both Freshman of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year in consecutive seasons.
Her offensive prowess was undeniable, as she accumulated 44 points across 19 matches, resulting in the third-best points-per-game average in the nation at 2.32. Engle also ranked fifth nationally with 19 goals scored this season. Further recognition came with two ACC Offensive Player of the Week awards, a selection to the ACC Championship All-Tournament Team, and CSC Academic All-District honors.
Engle’s dominance extended to conference play, where she scored 11 goals – one of only two players to reach double-figure goals in ACC matches this season. She was the sole player to record a hat trick in league play, achieving this feat with three goals in Notre Dame’s decisive 5-0 victory at Virginia Tech on October 23.
Through just 41 career matches, Engle has already amassed an impressive 38 career goals, demonstrating her consistent scoring ability and impact on the game.
