The coordinated security response triggered a high-level counterterrorism briefing in Warsaw.
The security alert began early Sunday morning when the State Protection Service received an alarming electronic message transmitted via email. Officials later clarified that the communication originated from an informant who detailed threats against the country’s top leaders after reviewing online recruitment efforts.
Antiterrorism Center Briefing in Warsaw
A meeting regarding a possible assassination plot against the prime minister and the head of the Ministry of National Defence is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, at the Warsaw headquarters of the Internal Security Agency (ABW), announced Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister coordinator of special services. In connection with information received by the police concerning a possible assassination attempt on Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Minister Coordinator of Special Services Tomasz Siemoniak and Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński ordered action to be taken on the matter, Jacek Dobrzyński wrote on the platform X. A meeting of representatives from the police, the State Protection Service (SOP), and the ABW began at the Counter-Terrorism Centre of the Internal Security Agency.
Special services spokesperson Jacek Dobrzyński defended the decision to publicize the threat, noting that authorities viewed the intelligence with extreme gravity.
We take the matter dead seriously. We are talking about a high probability of these threats being carried out,
Jacek Dobrzyński said at an afternoon press conference, according to RMF24.
I know that on many broadcasts, many pseudo-experts are speaking today with disbelief: why did we report this? Because the matter, I emphasize, is deadly serious.
Arrest on the Lower Silesia Region
Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister coordinator of special services, announced that the man was detained in Lower Silesia. On Sunday, the Ministry of the Interior and Administration reported that information had been received by the police regarding the matter. The man who threatened an assassination attempt against Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz is around 60 years old.
Police initiated searches of the suspect’s residence while forensic experts examined his digital communications and network connections to determine the full scope of the plot.
Duda Questions Timing of Government Security Disclosures
Former President Andrzej Duda questioned the timing and manner of the government’s disclosures during an appearance on Polsat News, suggesting that high-profile announcements about threats to state leaders resembled an effort to deflect attention from ongoing security debates elsewhere in the public sector.
Meanwhile, legal experts pointed to provisions within the Polish Penal Code governing threats against constitutional organs. Under the criminal code, preparations for an attack aimed at removing a constitutional authority can result in penalties ranging from 2 to 15 years in prison, while active assault on the president is punishable by imprisonment from 3 months to 5 years.
