Beijing: Jack Ma, the founder of the Chinese Internet giant Alibaba, who fled the country after criticizing the Chinese rulers, returned to China after two years and participated in a public event. Jack Ma visited a school in Hangzhou and gave a lecture on topics including artificial intelligence.

Jack Ma, who stepped down as chairman of Alibaba in 2019, became the focus of the administration in November 2020 when he criticized China’s financial system controls.

With that, Jack Ma left the country for fear of government persecution and lived secretly in Europe, Japan, Thailand and Hong Kong.

Jack Ma’s return comes as new Premier Li Chiang’s stance is seen as a sign of a change in the administration’s approach to monopolies.
