James Ransone: Neighbor Shares Story of Rescue & Loss

James Ransone, known for his role on The Wire, is being remembered as a hero after his death by suicide on Friday at the age of 46. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be “hanging” in a “shed.” As the heartbreaking news surfaced,tributes have poured in from family and friends,and a former neighbor is now sharing a story of how Ransone once saved her life.

Molly Watts took to Instagram on Tuesday to express her profound gratitude for the It star, stating, “I found out yesterday that @jamesransone died. I’m usually private but I want to publicly say I am so grateful that this man existed and don’t no if the trajectory of my life would be the same if he hadn’t.”

In 2006, Ransone intervened when Watts was attacked outside their New York City apartment. She recalled the terrifying ordeal: “We were neighbors in Chinatown. Friendly, overlapping social circles. I was attacked at the threshold of our building. I screamed for help. No one came. My attacker put his hands around my throat so I would stop making noise. I couldn’t breathe. I remember the certainty that I was going to die or be raped as I was choked unconscious.”
