Japanese scientists come up with an antimicrobial coating for clothes

by time news

Scientists at the University of Tokyo have created a coating that protects clothes from germs, viruses and fungi. It is based on silver, and for application polyphenols are used that bind silver ions to the fabric, including tannic acid. The coating is transparent and retains its antimicrobial properties even after ten washes.

It is proposed to apply the coating in two ways. In industrial conditions, clothes are simply soaked in impregnation. At home, the coating can be applied to it manually, independently.

According to scientists, their invention will be especially useful in medical facilities, especially in the “red zones”, as well as in other places where sterility is necessary.
