Jaxson Dart: Reaction to Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Exit

Jaxson Dart Fuels Optimism for New York Giants Despite Challenging Season

Despite a current record of 2-11, a surprising wave of optimism is building around the New York Giants, largely due to the impressive performance of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. The 2025 first-round pick has quickly become a focal point for the franchise’s future, demonstrating poise and production beyond his years.

A Bright Spot in a Difficult Year

Dart assumed the starting quarterback role just four weeks into the season and has since showcased a skillset that has captivated fans and analysts alike. Through his early NFL career, the 22-year-old has thrown for 1,556 yards, 11 touchdowns, and only three interceptions, maintaining a strong 94.1 passer rating. He’s also a threat on the ground, adding 337 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.

This immediate success isn’t a coincidence; it’s rooted in Dart’s development under the tutelage of former head coach Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss. During his three seasons in Oxford, Dart flourished, earning first-team All-SEC honors in 2024 and leading the NCAA in passer rating that same year.

Navigating Alma Mater Turmoil

As Dart concludes his first professional season, he’s keenly aware of the recent changes at his former university. Kiffin’s departure for LSU and the subsequent promotion of defensive coordinator Pete Golding to permanent head coach at Ole Miss have been major talking points in the college football world.

When asked about Kiffin’s move, Dart offered a thoughtful and understanding perspective. “He kind of does some things that are unexpected,” Dart told reporters on Wednesday. “I’m looking forward to his next opportunity. Me and him just have such a great relationship, so I know for him, he’s going to put his best foot down and do some really great things for that program. I’m definitely excited for him.”

He also expressed support for the decision to retain the Ole Miss offensive staff through the playoffs. “I’m definitely happy for Ole Miss keeping coach (Pete) Golding at the helm there. I was also happy to keep their offensive staff, being able to come back and coach for the rest of the playoff. I felt like that would be kind of, like a disrespect a little bit, to not let those guys finish it out. Really excited to see their run to a national championship this year.”

A Proven Track Record

Dart’s collegiate career was nothing short of remarkable. From 2022 to 2024, he amassed 10,617 passing yards, 72 touchdowns, and 22 interceptions, completing 65.7% of his passes. He even surpassed Eli Manning’s school record for all-time passing yards at Ole Miss.

His on-field leadership translated to consistent success, boasting a 29-10 record as the Rebels’ starter. This included three bowl appearances, with victories in the 2023 Peach Bowl and the 2024 Gator Bowl.

The Giants’ struggles this season are undeniable, but the emergence of Jaxson Dart provides a tangible reason for hope. His talent, combined with a strong foundation built under Lane Kiffin, positions him as a potential cornerstone for a franchise eager to return to contention.
