Job Surrender in Tamil Nadu Municipal Corporations: 8,130 Positions to be Outsourced, Saving 300 Crore Rupees Annually

by time news

Tirupur: In 490 Municipal Corporations in Tamil Nadu, 8,130 jobs will be ‘surrendered’, saving 300 crore rupees per year. The Municipal Administration and Drinking Water Supply Department issued an order:

In municipalities, sanitation work has been awarded to private companies on a 3-year ‘tender’ basis. Works like installation of street lights, distribution of potable water, solid waste management are being done in ‘outsourcing’ mode.

There are 8,130 posts in Municipalities, including electricians, fitters, office watchmen, drivers, plumbers, meter readers, water pipe maintainers, street light maintenance assistants, who carry out the work of installing street lights and water supply.

Of this, 7,061 posts are filled; There are 1,069 vacancies. It has been decided to cancel all these 8,130 posts and carry out these works in ‘outsourcing’ mode.

Accordingly, after the retirement of 7,061 permanent employees, the vacancies will not be filled; 1,069 vacant posts will not be filled. By ‘surrendering’ these jobs, 300 crore rupees will be saved annually.

Thus, it is pointed out.

Some members of the Municipal Employees Union said:

While the posts of cleaning staff have been canceled in municipalities, 59 posts of cleaning officers, 114 posts of cleaning inspectors, 190 posts of assistant cleaning inspectors and 200 posts of cleaning supervisors are to be created to supervise cleaning work.

While sanitation work is contracted out to private individuals, the municipal administrations have to pay a substantial amount per year according to the amount of garbage they collect.

The cleaning work will be supervised by the contract company; In this case, creating new positions to supervise them is surprising.

Thus they said.

Rangaraj, State Treasurer of the Rural Development Local Government Employees’ Union, CITU, said, “Those who were permanent sanitation workers in the municipalities were getting a respectable salary of at least 20,000 to 40,000 rupees; They lived an honorable life.

“On leave of absence, cash benefits were also provided. As jobs are surrendered, cleaners can now work in outsourcing mode; At most, it is difficult to get a salary of Rs 20,000. Due to this, their standard of living will not improve,” he said.
