The film will continue the story of hitman John Wick.
John tries to forget his criminal past by leading a moderate life away from the big cities. But one day an old friend comes to his house. He demands that Wick repay the debt for the fact that once upon a time this acquaintance helped him escape from his pursuers. John has to agree. Without knowing it, he starts a dangerous game from which it is impossible to get out without getting his hands dirty
The last film ends when John is betrayed by his friend Winston. John tried to protect him from powerful people who wanted him dead. However, a representative of these shadow forces states that Winston can spare his life if John Wick dies. Then Winston shoots John and throws him off the roof where the negotiations were going on. The traitor receives immunity, but the body of our hero mysteriously disappears. An injured John Wick is delivered to King Bowery, the “King of the Beggars”, who tells John that he intends to fight against those who tried to kill him. He asks John if he shares his aspirations. He replies: “Yes.”
Judging by the latest trailer, the new movie will focus on John’s fight against these shadowy forces. The battle will unfold in the US, Japan, France and Germany. Director of the film Chad Stahelski in an interview talks about the film:
“The fourth chapter continues the story of the previous three films, and it has a little ending, which is great. We’re introducing a host of new characters that have a lot to say about John Wick’s past and present.”
Who will play the elite assassins
The main character of the franchise, as in previous films, will be embodied by the idol of several generations, Keanu Reeves. Without his participation, a series of films about John Wick would be impossible to imagine. Moreover, he tries to do most of the tricks himself.
Also returning to their roles are Laurence Fishburne (King Bowery), who has already worked with Reeves on The Matrix, Lance Reddick (Charon), one of the central actors of the TV series Fringe, Ian McShane (Winston), the star of the TV series Deadwood, and Donnie Yen (Kane), famous for martial arts films. It remains unknown whether Halle Berry will return to the franchise, in the last film she played the role of John’s former partner, Sophia.
One of the new faces in the franchise will be Bill Skarsgård, who should be known to viewers as the demonic clown Pennywise from IT. He will play the role of one of the employers of the assassins who were sent after the head of John Wick. Joining him is famed supporting actor Hiroyuki Sanada, this time playing a katana-wielding hitman. Finally, Shamir Anderson will appear in the film, but no details about his character are yet known.
Are the stunts still on point?
Of course, one of the main factors behind the success of the John Wick films has always been the incredible stunts and action scenes made completely without the use of computer graphics. And judging by the published materials, the franchise is absolutely not going to give up its positions in this direction.
Firstly, in the latest trailer you can see some very colorful fights and shootouts, made with the same highest level of taste and style as before. It does not make sense to describe them in detail, it is better to just watch the video.
Secondly, Keanu Reeves also confirmed that for the fourth part he had to perform a whole range of tricks that he had never done before. For example, he had to learn several new fighting techniques especially for filming with the support of professional trainers. At the same time, several of the best teams of stuntmen from different countries developed solutions for the movement of the hero in space with him. The director even separately praised Reeves for his dedication and ability to quickly learn completely new things for himself.

The audience very warmly accepted the new video for the film, to date it has already been watched by more than 10 million people. Many have noted how amazing it is that the creators manage to maintain the level of the franchise throughout all four films. Also, fans were happy to see all the old actors, especially Donnie Yen, because given his background in martial arts, his participation in the film is especially valuable. Finally, commentators are constantly amazed at the fact that Keanu Reeves is already 57 years old, but he still looks great in such a movie.
It is interesting to note that the reviews for the third film were not so unambiguous. Then many were tired of the artificiality of the battle scenes and the length of the plot. On average, the third part received much worse marks than the first two. Will the new film be able to fix the situation? For now, we can only hope so.
John Wick 4 release date
The film will be released worldwide on March 24, 2023. It is still unknown whether it will reach Russian cinemas or not, and also whether the film will have a full-fledged dubbing into Russian.
Will there be a John Wick 5?
Yes, the creators of the franchise have already announced that the filming of the fifth part will begin immediately after the release of the fourth. However, no information about the film, including the composition of the film crew and the release date, is yet available.
