Jordi Calvet makes his Goya nomination official in his directorial debut with ‘Takbir’

L’Academy of Dinner has nominated the short film ‘Takbeer‘ from the Girona filmmaker Jordi Calvet as a candidate for the 2024 Goya Awards. Calvet, who made his directorial debut with this short, says that the nomination is “a dream come true” after overcoming “the great challenge” of directing ‘Takbir’ with Octavi Pujades, Xènia Torrat and Pedro Casablanc. The awards ceremony will take place on February 10 in Valladolid. With this nomination, ‘Takbir’ starts a race towards the Goya after accumulating more than 80 awards in festivals and film shows around the world. Now, Jordi Calvet assures that he is already preparing the second short film that will be shot next month in Blanes (Selva) and says that it will have a great cast.

‘Takbir’ has become the most awarded Spanish short film of the last twelve months. Accumulate more than 80 awards in screenings and film festivals in different parts of the world. This weekend has six nominations in theInternational Filmmaker Festival in Milan and the following weekend will reach the premis Oriana with nine more nominations. The short film ‘Takbir’ is about one fiction linked to jihadism. The play details the story of a thriller author who is commissioned by a production company in Turkey to make a television series about a terrorist group that carries out attacks in several cities. Six months later, this author sees how the ISIS group materializes two of the proposed attacks that the author had devised. Faced with the terror that the man experiences when he sees that he has become the mastermind of these operations, he decides to go to the National Police station to warn them that the next attack should take place in Madrid.

‘Takbir’ is the first short film that Jordi Calvet has directed, although it has a first-class cast. They act in it Pedro Casablanc, Xènia Tostado, Octavi Pujades, Macarena Gómez or Ares Teixidó.
