The mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, had appointed lawyer Jorge Beltrán as the new Legal Secretary of Bogotá; However, this January 5, the jurist announced that he will not accept the position, since he opted for other professional projects.

Read: Galán met with the authorities to design a security plan, this is known.

Through his X account, Beltrán indicated that this decision was made after several conversations with his family and with his law firm, Beltrán Pardo Abogados & Asociados, of which he is a founding partner.

He argued that this determination “is due exclusively to the need to continue the sustained growth that my Firm has been experiencing, which for 10 years has built an impeccable track record and that at this moment I cannot neglect or give in to the exercise of public office.” However, he thanked the mayor for taking him into account to assume this portfolio. “My gratitude for your deference to me and for your understanding in this decision,” he said.

And he added that he will remain “committed to continuing to build a better country and supporting our Bogotá from academia and professional practice.”

The councilor of Bogotá, Daniel Briceño, celebrated the decision of Beltrán, whom in previous days he had questioned about his appointment, since the jurist was the financial and legal structurer of the concession of funeral and cemetery services of the previous administration, which is the subject of investigation by the Comptroller’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office, due to possible irregularities in its execution.

“After our complaint, Mr. Jorge Beltrán decides not to accept the position of Legal Secretary of the District. It was a bad message for Bogotá that the legal and financial structurer of the questioned cemetery concession reached that position,” the councilor wrote in his X account.

Until now, it is unknown who will assume this portfolio, which will have the complex task of addressing the open legal fronts that the capital currently has. Firstly, the lawsuits against the Territorial Planning Plan (POT) that Claudia López approved by decree; the legal problems with the Salitre Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), as well as the difficulties in advancing the Canoas WWTP.

We recommend: These are the projects with which the new Bogotá Council will start.

In the compilation of disputes to be resolved, the lawsuit for property detriment for the creation of the public transport operator La Rolita is also added.
