Josh Brolin Calls Donald Trump a “Marketing Genius” While Dismissing Fears of a Prolonged Hold on Power
Actor Josh Brolin offered a nuanced perspective on former President Donald Trump, acknowledging his marketing prowess while simultaneously downplaying concerns about a continued grip on power.
Actor Josh Brolin described Donald Trump as a “genius” in marketing during a recent interview with The Autonomous, a surprising assessment from the actor who has publicly criticized the former president’s political ambitions. Brolin, however, expressed confidence that Trump will not remain in office beyond his term, stating, “I’m not scared of Trump, because even though he says he’s staying forever, it’s just not going to happen.”
The actor revealed a prior relationship with trump, having met him following his role in “Wall street: Money Never Sleeps.” He recounted his early interest in Trump’s entrepreneurial ventures, specifically a hotel project “in the middle of a cesspool city during the late seventies.” Brolin observed that Trump’s power has since become “unmitigated, it’s unregulated.”
Brolin’s assessment of Trump’s success centers on his ability to tap into the vulnerabilities of the electorate. “There is no greater genius than him in marketing – he takes the weakness of the general population adn fills it,” he explained. “That’s why I think a lot of people feel that they have a mascot in him. I think it’s much less about Trump than it is about the general population and their need for validation.”
This perspective arrives after Brolin publicly denounced Trump’s 2020 presidential bid.In an Instagram post, the actor stated, “I refuse to believe that Donald Trump is our core version of American masculinity.” He further elaborated that “The America that was great was never based on creating hate and conspiracy to win,” and pointed to the documented falsehoods attributed to Trump, stating he had “lied over 50,000 documented times.”
Brolin also discussed his latest role as Monsignor Wicks in “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” the “Out” series. The film features a star-studded cast including Daniel Craig, Glenn close, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, and Kerry Washington. While acknowledging the potential for parallels, Brolin clarified that his character was not directly inspired by the former president. “I coudl make something up and say it was rooted in a kind of Trumpian greed,” he said, adding that Wicks’ character is defined by a pursuit of power “then there are no boundaries.”
Brolin’s comments offer a complex portrait of a figure he knows both personally and publicly, highlighting the enduring impact of Trump’s marketing strategies and the underlying societal needs they address.
