Junior 20 Over World Cup: Rs 5 crore prize money announced for champion Indian women’s team

India created history by defeating England to win the Champions Trophy for the first time in Women’s Junior 20 Over Cricket World Cup. The Cricket Board has announced that the Indian team will be given an incentive of Rs 5 crore.

The inaugural Women’s Junior 20 Over Cricket World Cup (Under 19) started on 14th in South Africa. India and England entered the finals at the end of the league and super six rounds of the 16-team tournament. In this situation, the final match to decide who will be crowned among these two teams took place yesterday in Potcepstroom.

Indian captain Shabali Verma won the toss and chose to bowl. After that, the England players who batted first were unable to compensate for the Indian bowling. The team was bowled out for 68 runs in just 17.1 overs.

Apart from Niamh Holland (10 runs), Rhianna MacDonald Kay (19 runs), Alexa Stonehouse (11 runs) and Sophia Smale (11 runs), no one touched double figures. Captain Grace Scrivens was caught for 4 runs. On the Indian side, Didas Sadhu, the fast bowler, took 2 wickets, conceding only 6 runs in 4 overs. Parshavi Chopra, Archana Devi took 2 wickets each, Mannat Kashyap, Shabali Verma and Sonam Yadav took one wicket each.

In the Indian team which went towards an easy target, the opening players Captain Shabali Verma (15 runs) and Swetha Sherawat (5 runs) disappointed but the players who came behind them reached the target without difficulty. Trisha was bowled for 24 runs.

The Indian team scored 69 runs for 3 wickets in 14 overs and won the World Cup by a margin of 7 wickets. Saumya Tiwari was on 24 runs (37 balls, 3 boundaries) and Hrishitha Basu was not out. India’s Didas Sadhu won the man of the match award and England captain Grace Scrivens won the man of the match award (total of 293 runs and 9 wickets).

India has never won a World Cup in any format in women’s cricket before. Indian senior team has lost 3 times in the final. But the young Indian team has managed to win the title in their debut World Cup series. Congratulations are pouring in for them.

Congratulating the Indian women’s team for winning the World Cup and bringing great pride to the nation, Cricket Board of India Secretary Jai Shah also announced that Rs 5 crore will be awarded to all the players and assistants.

Also, to celebrate the victory, he invited the Indian junior team led by Shabali Verma to witness the final 20 over match between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 1st.
