Kaïn Breakup: Steve Veilleux on the Band’s Split

Kaïn’s Steve Veilleux Embarks on Solo Path After 25-Year Run, Confirms Final Tour Dates

The beloved Canadian band Kaïn will officially conclude its remarkable 25-year journey on December 4, 2026, with a final performance in Drummondville, Quebec. Lead singer Steve Veilleux has confirmed he has no intention of reversing this decision, even for additional dates, and is eager to explore a solo career fueled by a new wave of songwriting.

Veilleux revealed on Wednesday that the impetus for Kaïn’s farewell stemmed from a creative shift. “The initial thoughts came because I had written 15-16 new songs,” he explained to Agence QMI. “I listened to them with the guys in the band, and we all understood that it wasn’t Kaïn.” This realization, he stated, initiated discussions about the band’s future and ultimately paved the way for their planned separation.

The singer expressed a desire for more emotionally resonant songs and a more intimate artistic direction. He intends to revisit his musical roots and experiment with his style, unburdened by the need to align with the established Kaïn sound. “I’ve made solo albums in the past, but it was at the same time as Kaïn. I didn’t have complete freedom,” Veilleux said. “And I didn’t want to harm Kaïn, so I made albums that were very different. Now, there will be no artistic parameters that I will have to follow or impose on myself. I’m going to go about it with complete freedom.”

Despite embarking on a solo path, Veilleux affirmed his deep respect for Kaïn’s legacy. He plans to continue performing a significant portion of the band’s catalog in his future concerts. “It’s the end of a really beautiful chapter that lasted 25 years and a little more,” he added. “We have a great tour ahead of us until then, and I want to enjoy every moment.”

Before launching into the farewell tour, titled “La cour des grands: 25 ans de Kaïn,” Veilleux will participate in the latest iteration of the holiday show, Noël, une tradition en chanson. He will share the stage from November 29 to December 23 with a stellar lineup including Emily Bégin, Johanne Blouin, Paul Daraîche, David Latulippe, Rita Tabbakh, and Joël Legendre, who also serves as the show’s director.

Veilleux described his role in the holiday production as embracing the festive and traditional elements. “I’ve spent my life in a band, and I feel like a fish in water. I perform many of my songs in the show,” he noted. He also revealed plans to reimagine several Kaïn hits with a Christmas twist and revisit Elvis Presley’s iconic “Blue Christmas.”

The “La cour des grands: 25 ans de Kaïn” tour will encompass 70 dates, beginning on January 15, 2026, and culminating on December 4, 2026. Veilleux was emphatic in his commitment to honoring the band’s decision, stating, “There is no chance that Kaïn will return” after the final date, dismissing any possibility of encore performances.

“I don’t want to go back on my word. I’m someone who has always advocated for integrity,” Veilleux asserted. “I don’t want to be opportunistic and try to stretch things out. We’ve already given ourselves a year, and we have a lot of dates. December 4th is a real final date. That’s where we finish it, in Drummond.” He continued, “There will be no trickery or extra show. We want a real farewell tour. And not to dilute the value of this band, which has always had the pedal to the metal. We want an ending that resembles us.”
