Movie ‘Kajalrekha’ produced by Gias Uddin Salim. It was released across the country on April 11 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. The movie is showing in multiplexes for two weeks.
The movie is based on Mymensingh song ‘Kajalrekha’. Ghiyas Uddin Selim’s movie has now found a place in the syllabus of Dhaka University. This information has been confirmed by the manufacturer himself.
The movie ‘Kajalrekha’ has been included in the syllabus of Masters in History Department of Dhaka University. Ghiyas Uddin Salim, referring to this information, said, ‘A few weeks after the release, we were contacted by the history department. They watched the movie a few days ago. Then decided to include it in their curriculum.’
The matter was discussed with Aksadul Alam, professor of history department of DU and teacher of the related course. He said, “One of the sources of medieval Bengali culture is Mymensingh Gitika. Kajal Rekha is a part of that. Which has now been made into a movie. So we include the movie ‘Kajalrekha’ as an example of this source of history.”
Aksadul Alam said that earlier in the same process, the movie ‘Chandravati Katha’ and stage play ‘Behular Bhasan’ produced by N Rashed Chowdhury were included in their syllabus. These have been replaced by the new ‘Kajalrekha’. Professor Aksadul Alam said that if any other movie or drama comes in the future around Bengali art and culture of the Middle Ages, it will also be taken into consideration.
Aksadul Alam also clarified how exactly the movie ‘Kajalrekha’ will be a part of teaching. He said, “We have always been teaching Mymensingh Gitika to the students. Since the movie ‘Kajalrekha’ is based on this song, it is included as an example. Students will watch the movie; It will be reviewed from an academic point of view whether the context of four hundred years ago has been properly revealed or not, whether the artists’ clothes, decorations, etc. have been coordinated or not. After that, if there is a question about it in the exam, you will answer accordingly and get marks.”
Mandira Chakraborty played the title role in the movie ‘Kajalrekha’. Also there are Shariful Raj, Khairul Basar, Rafiat Rashid Mithila, Sadia Ayman, Azad Abul Kalam, Gausul Alam Shawon etc.
