Kanchipuram Mayor:
In the recent urban local government elections, elections were held in 50 of the 51 seats in the Kanchipuram Corporation. The DMK won 31 seats, the AIADMK 9 seats, the BJP two seats, the Congress and the BJP one seat each and the Independents six seats. Some of these independent candidates have already joined the DMK. This is the first mayoral election held after Kanchipuram was upgraded to a corporation.
The mayoral post in Kanchipuram was reserved for women. In most of the wards, women contested in this election. While the DMK candidates had won in most of the seats, many of the winning candidates moved Kai to lead for the first mayoral post. In this context, the official announcement has been made that 36 year old Mahalakshmi Yuvraj is contesting as the Kanchipuram mayoral candidate on behalf of the DMK.
