Kansas Senate Race Forecast Shows Democrat Hamilton Leading Marshall

Democratic challenger Adam Hamilton leads Republican incumbent Sen. Roger Marshall by as much as 9 percentage points in Kansas, threatening a conservative seat unheld by Democrats since 1932 as campaign spending hits record figures.

Deep-red Kansas has suddenly turned into one of the most volatile Senate battlegrounds of the 2026 midterms. Republican incumbent Sen. Roger Marshall acknowledges the gravity of the contest, telling reporters that losing the state would likely cost his party its narrow Senate majority. I don't see how we keep control of the Senate, Marshall said during a campaign stop in Park City, Kansas.

A Republican super PAC diverted $14 million from North Carolina to shore up Marshall’s campaign. Total ad spending and future reservations in the Sunflower State have reached $84.5M, a 3,332% increase over the 2022 cycle, surpassing the previous state record of $49.1M set in 2020.

Polls Show Tight Race as Voters Eye Economy

Recent surveys show a tightening race, though pollsters caution about differing methodologies. A Washington Post-Schar School poll of 801 likely voters conducted from October 22 to 26 found Hamilton leading Marshall 52% to 43% with a margin of error of 3.9 points. The pollsters acknowledged the results may have overestimated Democratic support due to higher enthusiasm among Democratic respondents. A final Emerson College Polling survey of 800 likely voters conducted October 26 to 28 placed Hamilton at 49% and Marshall at 45% with a 3.5-point margin of error. When leaning undecideds are factored in, Hamilton edges to 50% while Marshall reaches 47%.

Notably, the difference in support between Hamilton and Marshall is the same as support for the Libertarian candidate, Graham, on the ballot.

Independent voters are breaking heavily for the Democratic challenger, supporting Hamilton 59% to 25%, according to Emerson data. Prediction markets reflect similar tightening, with trading volume approaching $7 million and Hamilton’s market probability sitting in the low-50s while Marshall trades in the high-40s.

PACs Pour Millions Into Kansas Ad Wars

Democratic advertisers hold a $13.0M advantage over Republicans in total ad spending. Hamilton’s campaign has spent $15.0M, more than double the $6.3M expended by Marshall.

Republicans are leaning on national surrogates and tele-rallies, with the Republican National Committee deploying President Donald Trump for tele-rallies across 19 states to reach more voters in the limited time left before polls close. Trump also participated in a morning radio interview on KCMO in Kansas City to support Marshall.

Fuel Costs and Patient Debt Lawsuits Pressure Marshall

Marshall’s tight alignment with President Trump—whose job approval sits at 45% against a 51% disapproval rating in the Emerson poll—has created an opening. High gas and diesel prices, with local fuel hovering just below $4 for gas and well over $6 for diesel, are pressing concerns for voters prioritizing the economy.

New poll has Hamilton with lead over Marshall in Kansas

The New York Times reported that during his years as a practicing OB-GYN, Marshall sued more than 700 patients for unpaid medical debts while charging 18% interest, with one unpaid bill totaling just $101. The reports also highlighted a past campaign incident where a Hutchinson baker claimed the senator stiffed her for almost $700 worth of cookies ordered for a 2020 watch party.

Voters Weigh Split Tickets Before Polls Close

Kansans have a documented history of splitting their tickets between federal and state races. In 2022, voters re-elected Democratic Governor Laura Kelly while simultaneously returning Jerry Moran to Washington. Observers suggest pragmatism remains a hallmark of the state’s electorate, leaving open the possibility that voters could select a Democrat for the Senate while backing Republican candidates in state-level contests like the gubernatorial race between Ty Masterson and Cindy Holscher.

In-person advance voting runs through Monday, November 2, at noon, ahead of Election Day on November 3. Will independent voters break for Hamilton in the final count, or will last-minute Republican ad spending close the gap?
