Keith LaMar should be living the last chapter of his life today. This November 16, 2023, a lethal injection should enter his veins, paralyze his lungs and finally cause cardiac arrest. That was his destiny, and he was aware of it since he was sentenced to capital punishment in 1993 for actively participating in the death of five people during a riot at the Lucasville prison where he was serving time for another murder. In July, after almost three decades on death row, he received the news that his execution was extended to January 13, 2027. The reason was not merciful, but merely logistical: the pharmaceutical company that manufactures these injections refuses to serve them to prisons in Ohio to execute people.
