Kerala BJP President K. Surendran Predicts Repeat of 2019 Defeat for Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad

Kerala BJP president and Wayanad Lok Sabha candidate K. Surendran said that this time Rahul Gandhi will have the same result in Wayanad as he lost to Smriti Irani in 2019.

On Sunday, the BJP announced the candidature of K. Surendran in Wayanad, the stronghold of the Congress. The name of the Kerala BJP president was announced along with actor Kangana Ranaut, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay, BJP MP Maneka Gandhi and businessman and former Congress MP Naveen Jindal.

The BJP on Sunday released the names of its candidates for Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Rajasthan, Haryana, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Sikkim and Telangana.

In the 2019 general elections, Surendran Congress, who was a candidate from the Pathanamthitta constituency, came third behind the Left candidates. Before that, he lost the 2016 assembly elections in Manjeswaram by a margin of just 89 votes. He contested the by-election in 2019 but did not win.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi won from Wayanad by defeating the CPI candidate PP Suneer by a majority of 4.31 lakh votes. BJP’s ally BDJS leader Tushar Vellapalli got only 78,816 votes. This time, CPI’s senior leader Annie Raja is the candidate of the Left Party in Wayanad.
