Kochi ∙ High Court said, ‘If the panchayats give permission so quickly, the cases in the court will be reduced by half’. Justice Viju Abraham’s verbal observation was in response to the Koodaranji panchayat’s action of giving permission to MLA PV Anwar’s park in Kakadampoil in one day.

He also asked during the hearing that ‘can the panchayats not be able to give permission so quickly?’ The High Court asked why the license was given to Anwar’s park in such haste. But the panchayat informed that the permission is only to open the children’s park and not to use the rides and pools. The court directed the Koodaranji panchayat and Anwar to submit an affidavit detailing what was allowed to operate in the park and what was not allowed.

TV Rajan, former general secretary of the Kerala River Protection Committee, approached the court against the operation of the park. Last day, the court had inquired as to how he worked for so long without a license. Following this, the petitioners pointed out that the panchayat gave permission while the case was being considered today. The petitioners said that visitors are admitted by paying Rs 400 per person and the panchayat does not pay anything including entertainment tax. The case will be heard again on Monday.
